Berbers in Casablanca                                   Hassan II Mosque

Casablanca is Morocco's largest city; the busiest port in North Africa, which has been an important port and trading center since the days of the Phoenicians.  Casablanca is  home to  nearly four million people.  This modern city has tree-lined streets, cobbled alleys, bazaars and souks, minarets and medinas.    Casablanca was settled by the Berbers in the  10th century BC and was used as a port by the Phoenicians and later the Romans.

The city and the medina of Casablanca as it is today was founded in 1770 by Sultan Mohammed be Abdaliah. Casablanca is the gateway to Morocco's interior and the exotic imperial cities of Rabat and Marrakech.
